Product Description Give your kitchen a modern appliance with retro styling. Enjoy healthy fruit smoothies in the a.m. and less innocent beverages in the p.m. The continuous speed and pulse along with a stainless steel cutting blade will have your ingredients chopped, blended, and purEed in next to no time.
Amazon.com Powered by a 500-watt motor, this classic blender blends margaritas and smoothies, mixes soups and sauces, chops fruits and vegetables, grinds coffee beans and nuts, grates cheese and coconut, and crushes ice. The blender has a high speed and a low-speed pulse control, which can be held down for continuous action. Its 40-ounce, ribbed-and-tapered glass container fits onto Oster's distinctive beehive-shaped base, which is clad in lustrous chrome and outfitted with slip-proof rubber feet. Its stainless-steel blade-assembly removes for cleaning, and the container is calibrated in both ounces and liters. Fully assembled, the blender stands 16 inches high on a 7-1/4-inch-diameter base. With the exception of the dishwasher-safe glass container, all parts--including the plastic lid with its plastic 2-ounce measuring insert--require hand washing. The blender carries a one-year warranty against defects, and its instruction booklet includes dozens of recipes. --Fred Brack

LOUD! March 10, 2010 Sarah Murphy (Boston, MA, USA) This machine is ear-piercingly loud!!! My ears were ringing for ten minutes after I used it for 1 min (making mayo -not anything loud like ice). I'm going to send it back because I just couldn't stand the noise.
The Circular Saw That Makes Smoothies March 6, 2010 J. Wilson (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing is hugely powerful, and LOUD, but then again it's got 600 watts, so what do you expect? I got this to replace my old Hamilton Beach 350 watt unit, which was good, but hard to keep clean and had a missing top.
If you were to hypothetically put your hand in there and flip the switch, this blender would obliterate your limb in seconds. It's kinda scary. But it makes great smoothies!
The metal drive parts are excellent, as plastic components are about as stupid as can be for high-stress applications like blending, and a lot of blenders have plastic-on-plastic drive mechanisms. The base is all metal, but the rim around the part where you set the pitcher into the drive mechanism is chrome-colored plastic, which is annoying. Why not make the whole damn thing out of the same piece of metal and just forge it as one steel unit? Hell if I know. The rest of the unit looks really durable, however.
My blender was NOT chrome, by the way, but rather brushed steel, so beware. It's still great, and easier to prevent fingerprints on anyway.
BTW, you can get this now at Wal-Mart for $56.
Plastic base to jar cracked March 3, 2010 Linda W 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've only used this blender a handful of times since purchasing it in 2009, and I usually hand-wash it rather than put it thru the dishwasher. But the black screw-on base to the blender jar has already cracked (in three places) - completely unusable.
The best blender in the 50$ - 70$ range February 20, 2010 Kevin Wong (Cypress, CA) The bender over all preforms very good. I've made shakes, pastes, soups, smoothies, and vinaigrettes. It's a very simple blender with only 2 speeds and is much more reliable than variable speed blenders with allot of buttons.
Goods
-Blends things well for price
-Easy to clean
-Big glass jar (better than cheap plastics that crack over time)
-2 speeds
-Easy to use
-Chops up ice, vegetables, and most other things
-Very powerful compared to most other blenders
Bad
-Doesn't pull items to the bottom without a good amount of liquid
-The plastic bottom will leak after 2 weeks (fix it with some plumbers tape)
-The rubber gasket will need to be replace more often if you dissemble it allot
(soap dries out the rubber making it weak and not elastic)
-Glass jar is heavy and not durable as plastic
-Loud, but most blenders are
Other than that a very balanced blender for the price. I could not give it more than 3 stars because of some of the quirks.
Damaged February 10, 2010 Ruchi Rikhi (Seatte, WA) The product looks great, and I'm sure will work fine - but just wanted to give users a heads up that is came with the a broken part (the circular plastic peice that inserts into the lid). Would be such a hassle to send this huge thing back - luckily, I called Oster and they're just goign to send me the piece for free.
Just wanted to let people know...I buy everything online, but after this I'm thinking this type of product might not be the best thing to get online...I would have been really annoyed if I had to figure out shipping back this huge box back bc of a damaged item.
